A mason jar filled with a switchel drink.

Quench your thirst the way working farmers do on a hot day with a Switchel. Makes 2 cups or 1 serving. This recipe can be doubled.

  • 1 3/4 cups water*
  • 3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup - more or less to your liking
  • 2 teaspoons grated ginger

Optional garnish:

  • Mint leaves
  • Basil leaves
  • Slice of lemon

  • Add all the ingredients in a mason jar. Seal and shake shake shake until it’s all mixed together. Place in refrigerator and chill until cold. I keep it in the fridge for a few hours. Keeps up to 3 days.
  • The longer it sits, the spicier it gets. When ready to drink, give it a good shake and enjoy. If you don’t want pieces of ginger, you can strain it before drinking. After it’s shaken, the ginger will settle to the bottom allowing you to pour out the liquid. I go big and enjoy the ginger as well.

*You can substitute club soda for the water. If you do, add a little into the jar first along with the other ingredients and mix. Then add remaining club soda and stir until combined. It will fizz up so try and mix well with the small amount first.
